Back channel diplomacy has been incorporated by states and non-state actors at the time of hostility and conflict. Bilateral negotiations and backchanneling is a normal way of contact within Persian Gulf states which normally occurs through mediators like Oman and Qatar. Lack of consensus over the security architecture of the region between Iran, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other GCC members and the Yemen crisis prove this way confidence building and reduction of hostility a viable option. Absence of a regional cooperation mechanism in the form of a security organization inclusive of all members made backchanneling a trustable method. This research sheds light on backchannel as the meaningful option for bringing consensus among hostile actors in the Persian Gulf. It incorporates comparative regionalism and secret diplomacy as an intertwined analytical framework. The history of regional cooperation in the Persian Gulf tied with great powers security consideration based on balance of power without establishment of a minimal contact between the member states. After their independence, the sheikhdoms pursued a bilateral diplomatic path with the Shah and later on the Islamic Republic of Iran to secure a minimum accord over the regional security architecture in the region. The geopolitics of the Persian Gulf region is the nexus of cooperation and conflict in bilateral and multilateral format. With emergence of small states active diplomacy, backchanneling proved itself worthy of attention. Oman as one its prominent favors, based its foreign policy on for negotiation and settling the differences.
